Sustainability
Every product that leaves our facility in Purnea begins in a farmer's field somewhere across the Himalayan Alluvial Plains of Bihar. We built O Farm on the belief that a food business can only be as strong, and as trustworthy, as the farmers it sources from. Empowering them is not a side initiative for us; it is the foundation of our business model.
We buy directly from farming communities across the Seemanchal, Koshi and Mithila belts of North Bihar wherever possible, cutting out unnecessary layers between the field and our processing floor. This means farmers capture a fairer share of what their harvest is genuinely worth, instead of losing margin to intermediaries at every step of the chain.
Payment is tied to verified quality, not guesswork or negotiation at the farm gate. By being transparent about how produce is graded and priced, we help farmers understand exactly what drives their returns, and give them a reason to invest in better practices season after season.
A significant share of India's fruit and vegetable harvest never reaches a buyer; it is lost to spoilage in transport, storage or on the farm itself. We located our processing base close to the source specifically to close that gap. The sooner produce reaches us after harvest, the less is wasted, and the more a farmer earns from the same field.
We work alongside farmers to encourage responsible agricultural practices that protect soil health and water use, and to share the kind of post-harvest handling knowledge that helps produce retain its quality between the field and our facility. A depleted field or a mishandled harvest helps no one, least of all the families who depend on it.
We aim to be a steady buyer, not a seasonal opportunist. Consistent demand from O Farm gives farmers the confidence to plan investment and cropping decisions beyond a single harvest, building the kind of long-term partnership that seasonal, transactional buying never can.
Our operations create work in and around Purnea, from field collection to sorting, processing and packing. A processing facility in a farming region should put money back into that region, not simply pull produce out of it, and we see farmer empowerment and rural livelihood generation as two sides of the same commitment.
This is a long-term journey, and our programs will keep growing alongside it. If you represent a farmer producer organisation, NGO or research body working on rural livelihoods or sustainable agriculture in Bihar and would like to explore a partnership with O Farm, we would like to hear from you.
